Logospire v2
A couple of months ago I launched a logo gallery project called Logospire. It’s been fairly successful so far and today has around 650 logos hosted on it. The feature that sets Logospire apart from other logo galleries is that you can submit a logo and have it displayed instantly on the gallery — all the moderation is done through user voting. Naturally, this attracts all sorts of logos, with quality levels that vary from great to not so great. I think it has worked ok so far, with better logos rising to the top and making the “Popular” section of the gallery worthwhile to browse.
Announcing Logospire
Over the past couple of weeks I’ve been working on a new project called Logospire. Logospire is a logo inspiration gallery. You can browse logos, upload your own logos, rate logos and leave comments and feedback.
While there are a few other logo galleries out there right now, I found that each one of them was lacking something. Most of the current galleries also moderate all logo submissions, so it may be a while before your logo actually goes live.
New Design
Just updated the Usability Post design. The old design, while perfectly usable, felt a little bland and boring. I could have made further updates to it, but I felt the basic structure and feel wasn’t right. So here we have a new redesign from scratch which I’ll be improving over the coming weeks. I really like how it’s turned out — incorporating bits of eye candy, yet keeping things simple. It’s also a lot more like the original design I started off with when the blog first launched.
Anyhow, here’s a shot of the old design if you’d like to see the difference (click to enlarge):
Usability Post Featured in Alltop
Some quick site news. I’m happy to report that Alltop are now featuring Usability Post in their User Interface section. Alltop is an aggregator of the top sites in various categories, like food, design, technology and sports. As well as listing their chosen sites, it also shows the latest five posts from each. It’s quite a nice resource if you want to find some new blogs on a particular topic.
Site Update
When I started working on this blog over a month ago I had a choice: pick up an off the shelf blogging system like WordPress or code my own. Having recently dived into the wonderful world of Ruby on Rails development I decided to code my own. I felt the flexibility of your own code and the freedom to easily add features outweighed the benefits of a large feature set an off the shelf CMS gave you.
You know what — I was wrong.
